It was very hard for me to understand how my son and alcoholism came to be in the same sentence. He had always been a great kid and I never expected it to be an issue. The legal age for drinking is 21 so how would it be possible for him to even have access to it? I am not naïve; I know kids try it in high school and at parties but I thought it would just be tasting beer. I imagined he would taste it, and hate it, and never touch it again, at least until later. Now, we’re in family counseling because my son is an alcoholic. What I have learned about how it is affecting his brain and how it is something he will have to deal with for the rest of his life scares me. It really is a disease and one that is destroying his life. There is hope for families like ours with professional help.
Zion Educational Systems’ Family Advocates are acutely aware of how easily it is for teens to get alcohol. More and more adolescents are dealing with alcoholism. If your family is in need of professional help, please call for help. Family Advocates are available anytime at 866-471-8579.
It Can Happen To You
We never saw the signs and never knew how bad it was until it was too late. Somewhere he crossed that proverbial line and there was no going back. I want other parents to be aware of the signs and to stay in their child’s life even if they are becoming more independent. If we would have had the right education, I really believe we would have been able to see it coming. In today’s world, you would be surprised by what your kids know and have access to. As a parent, you have to arm yourself with education. Zion Educational Systems has helped families who have a teen struggling with alcoholism.
