Understanding Modern Peer Pressure

Help Struggling Teen

Peer pressure
in our society is far more advanced and in-depth than ever before, and many troubled teens have difficulties resisting this pressure. Teenage boys and girls have enormous pressure on them to live up to what is considered the ‘norm’. This can include the type of music they listen to, the type of clothes they wear, drug and alcohol use, and being sexually active, among many others. At Zion Educational Systems, we strive to help parents of troubled teens find help for their struggling son or daughter. Please give us a call at 866-471-8579 to get started today.

Peer pressure has been around forever, it just has manifested itself in different forms throughout history. In our technologically-driven society today, it is a bigger problem than ever before. Television ads are full of suggestive material that dictate what is socially acceptable and what is not. These ads often encourage alcohol use and sexuality. In addition, the development of social networking sites has increased peer pressure in our society. Teenage boys and girls are pressured into participating in harmful behaviors, such as drug or alcohol abuse and sex.

Many boys and girls in the adolescent stage have not mastered the ability to think rationally. They have allowed society’s expectations to completely control their lives. These troubled teens can feel as if they are between a rock and a hard place. They have to choose between either losing their self-respect and dignity by participating in harmful behaviors with their peers; or keeping that self-respect and dignity by resisting the peer pressure, but being alienated by their friends.
