Therapeutic Boarding School for Troubled Teen - Zion Educational Systems

Christian families having to deal with the fall out of a troubled teen come face-to-face with their depth of spiritual maturity. Having a troubled teen is the test and the trial of your faith… we are to be “overcomers”. Since believers realize that God is sovereign, we also must realize that despite the actions and behaviors of the troubled teen God is still in control. He must be allowing this trial because He wants us to look to Jesus.

He must be allowing this test so that we can effectually learn to trust and rely on Jesus… Jesus must be our source, PERIOD! Sometimes, the answer is to let go of the troubled teen and place him/her into a Christian boarding school so that they can be restored. This is never an easy decision for a parent who truly loves their child. However, if God is in control, and He leads by His Holy Spirit, we will be tested and we will go through the trial. Facing Reality in the Here and Now

To even begin to characterize the modern culture in which we live is to bring up many harsh and hurtful scenarios complete with depressing adjectives. We are living in perilous times, which the Bible clearly prophesied and specified the reality by which we are all presently surrounded. People are “lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” all the things that Christians are NOT supposed to be.

Yet the Holy Spirit knew when he inspired Paul to write these words to Timothy what the reality would be in these last days. He also wrote: “Now the Spirit expressly (explicitly) says that in latter times, some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron…”

God “foretold” our present day reality…. and now it is upon us. I can remember in the 70s (which doesn’t seem so very long ago) of Bible teachers speaking of “things to come”…. and speaking of the reality of the above things. That was back before the days which were transformed by the personal computer and the advanced technology we now know…. where all manner of information is abruptly flung around the earth at breakneck speed, and yet the Spirit’s “knowledge” looked ahead and “saw” what we would be experiencing in these present days…and how swiftly it would penetrate and perforate the world and its system… leaving in its wake immeasurable sin and pain.

Most of the reality in which people live today is not pleasant…there is fear on every side with terrorist threats and actions…instability, vulnerability. There is violence, which bombards us in the movie theaters and on the television daily. There is a sexual promiscuity that has “gone to seed” blanketing people from young to old… a perversion of sexuality – blatant and unprecedented. People strut with haughtiness, pride, and lack of respect and honor of things that should be respected and honored. We live in an “in your face” reality where people from all generations are sick with the malady of unthankful ness and unforgiveness which is consuming their dignity. They are unholy and unloving…. filled with disdain for any different than themselves…rampantly mocking, scoffing, slandering…and do not care!!! It is NOT a pretty sight…and it is greatly unnerving!!!

Another great Christian thinker and writer, Francis Schaeffer (1912-1984) wrote concerning the times in which we live, leaving wisdom concerning many things in present-day reality; and even in the face of them, these are some of the inspired ideas He left us with:

“As Christians we are not to be people of escape…rather, we are to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Each of us is to speak to our self in psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, and make melody in our hearts to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19 FACE REALITY: the glory of the world God has created, the wonder of being human, the awful reality of the Fall, the tragedy of marred men and women, our own flawed character apart from Jesus. We are not to be people of escape. Be the realist…but face reality as people born again and indwelt with the Holy Spirit.”

Schaeffer also wrote: “To the extent that I am not conformed to the teaching of the Bible and the Word of God in my life…I am ‘entrapped’ in the mire of the world!”

Billions of people are trapped in the “mire of the world”…and many Christians are “trapped there” with them, for they pursue and demand a lifestyle of pleasantness and self-promotion. To do so is to join the rush of the world to the finish line of hedonistic, selfish pleasure. Our only protection from that is to be fully yielded and immersed in the Holy Spirit! We are to be changed! Rather than being conformed to this world…we are to be conformed to Jesus! His provision and protection are our ONLY covering in this gone wild hedonistic day! But with it…we CAN face reality and know that the promises of God are still…JUST THAT…. His promises – upon which He will not go back on. Many modern Christians have interpreted those promises to mean perpetual pleasantness…a “heaven on earth” reality…. when the truth is…the reality of this world is that IT IS A FALLEN one…and there is MUCH unpleasantness in such a reality! We are to FACE IT with the power of the HOLY SPIRIT…and not try to escape it. Rather we are to wait upon the Lord – each of us for our time to enter Heaven…which will be our ONLY ESCAPE from this modern unholy mess!

This is not to say that we never know many blessings here on earth…for we do…but so many squirm and panic when life is not pleasant all around. When pressure and stress come…. we can “escape” temporarily from some of it in times of rich spiritual worship and prayer…times of precious fellowship with the Holy Spirit (and we MUST do so to receive His grace and anointing and strength to carry on), but as long as we are living and breathing on THIS earth…we will always be sent back from the mountaintop of this Presence into the “valleys of life” to “rescue the perishing… care for the dying…show Jesus’ mercy and grace to this lost and dying world and its people”! Unless we are willing and will honestly face THAT reality…Jesus cannot trust us…nor can He move through us to reach out to others. If we live to experience only a life of ease and pleasantness…. we will miss the “spiritual reality” of truly “knowing Him”…for to truly know Him is to also experience the fellowship of His suffering before knowing His resurrection and ultimately abiding with Him eternally!

Looking unto Jesus…the Author and Finisher of our faith!
