Preventing Teen Suicide | Zion Educational Systems

At Zion Educational Systems we take teen suicide very seriously, and go to great measures to teach parents and troubled teens (girls) about the warning signs of teen suicide.  There are very few worse experiences in life than teenage suicide.

The devastation, the sense loss, the agony of regret will last a lifetime for those left behind.  Please read our article regarding teen suicide and understand that our job is to equip parents, teachers, and teenagers so that perhaps a suicide can be prevented.

The reasons behind a teen girls suicide or attempted suicide can be complex.  Suicide is relatively rare among girls, the rate of suicides and suicide attempts increases tremendously during the teenager years.  At Zion we serve troubled girls with a history of self-harm.  Our methods of treatment also is prevention.

Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for 15- to 24-year-olds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It’s also thought that at least 25 attempts are made for every completed teen suicide. The risk of suicide increases dramatically when troubled teens have access to firearms at home, and nearly 60% of all suicides in the United States are committed with a gun. That’s why any gun in your home should be unloaded, locked, and kept out of the reach of children and teen.

Overdose using over-the-counter prescription, and non-prescription medicine is also a very common method for both attempting and completing suicide. It’s important to monitor carefully all medications in your home. Also be aware that teens will “trade” different prescription medications at school and carry them (or store them) in their locker or backpack.Suicide rates differ between boys and girls.

Girls think about and attempt suicide about twice as often as boys, and tend to attempt suicide by overdosing on drugs or cutting themselves. If you are a parent of a troubled girl and you suspect that there are signs of suicide please contact a professional clinician, doctor, pastor, priest, or law enforcement officer.

Its better for you to be wrong and act hasty than it is to find out later that you were right.  If you are looking for a residential treatment center for troubled girls call us at 1-866-471-8579
