Causes Of Adolescent Drug Use

Many parents of adolescents abusing drugs are unaware of the causes of addictions. Current studies show that the increase in drug use is mostly in marijuana and prescription medications. We currently live in a society where the use of marijuana has become more widely accepted, and also because more households have medicine cabinets filled with an assortment of prescriptions. This provides easy access for teens, and it is known that 2,500 teens abuse prescription drugs every day. A Residential Treatment Center which provides help to troubled girls and their families overcome the challenges resulting from adolescent drug use. Call 1-866-471-8579 now.

Huge Numbers Of Adolescents Are Abusing Drugs

The number of statistics supporting those statements is overwhelming. Teens who might never engage in street drugs feel that taking prescription medications is somehow “safer”. But abuse is abuse. Mixing prescriptions can be just as risky…and deadly. Sleeping pills, pain pills, and anti-anxiety medications are most widely used by teens, regardless if they have been specificlly prescribed for them or not. We have become a pill-popping society, where medications are prescribed for every possible physical or emotional ailment. If children see the adults around them frequently turning to this method of self-help, we should not be surprised that our curious teens are following suit.

Is my teen using drugs?

The challenge in determining if a teen is using drugs, is that many of the signs and symptoms of drug use may also be normal teenage behaviors. Nose bleeds or sinus issues, drop in grades, weight loss, theft, change in social circle, frequent coughing, change in eating habits, or lack of interest in favorite activities. If your child is involved in drug usage, we can help to isolate the underlying cause, and redirect her onto a path free from addition. Although stopping “cold turkey” is possible, it can also be extremely difficult. Receiving continual guidance and support from a drug treatment program can produce long-term results in a much safer way. Call now 1-866-471-8579.
